Shaping the Ukulele Neck

The reinforced neck blank was roughly cut to shape with the band saw.  Two pieces of scrap were glued as "ears" to cover the scarf joint and widen the head stock. The heel was roughed out with a razor saw, chisel, and rasp. I was planning to develop a neck jig to speed up the shaping process. I decided  not to because this step is very enjoyable and meditative. Using the center line and fretboard as reference lines, I shaped the neck more by feel than sight.

The front and back Koa  plates were glued to the headstock to cover the scarf joint and for additional strength. The top plate mirrors the sapwood motif of the body. The neck will be finalized after the fretboard is attached.
