Fitting Neck to the Body

I've refined the dove tail joint fit between the ukulele neck and body.  The neck heel needs to be modified  to fit the curve of the upper bout. The fitting process includes taping 100 grit sand paper on top of the heel side of the body around the female dove tail joint and slowly sanding the neck back and forth to conform to the arc of the upper part of the ukulele body. This process is also called "flossing". Sanding is slow  because the dove tail joint hinders horizontal sanding movement. I devised an extension of the dove tail joint to increase the horizontal movement and keep proper neck-body alignment. I couldn't get a tight fit between the body and neck. There was a 1/32" gap. I finally discovered a slight high spot adjacent to the dove tail on the neck side. The high point was chiseled flush and a proper fit was achieved.

The jig provides additional support and space for horizontal sanding
