Bracing the Back

A thin spruce back strip reinforcement was glued to the center seam. Then Sitka spruce braces were cut to the proper length and one side of the braces were sanded to conform to a 15 foot radius. I used my sandpaper covered radius dish (15'r) to shape the proper arc. The braces were glued to the back using the radius dish as a base for the "Go-Bar" clamping system. The braces were scalloped with small chisels and a small Ibex plane. The 15 foot back arch provides better acoustics and additional strength (think of  the back as a dome).
