The koa back plates were sanded to the same thickness as the 1/8" back strip. The plates and the decorative strip were glued and clamped with a wedge system jig and two clamps to hold the center flat. I did some research on how to install a center strip. You can route a channel into a glued back or glue the strip to the two back plates as I did. C.F. Martin glues the back strips on their guitars. Gluing seemed a simpler method.
