Dye the Mahogany Neck and Body

I wanted to darken the mahogany neck and body to reflect the dark red-brown color of the Martin ukulele. The dye is an analine dye that is soluable in alcohol and comes in powder form. I bought it from LMI. When I first put it on, I thought this is a big mistake. The color looked like brown mud especially on the neck. The color on the body looked better. I put a second coat on the neck which darkend the color. I stopped adding any more coats. I will be able to add more color when grain filling or French polishing. I first used a sponge brush, but found rubbing it on with a rag gave me a smoother finish.
