Sanding the ukulele body and neck was done prior to attachment. I figured it would be easier to sand the uke separately. I used the following grit recommended by Kinkead's book: 150, 180, 220, 320, 400. I glued the sandpaper on to scrap wood blocks. I sanded the curves by hand and with an eraser block. Lots of dust, make sure you wear a mask. The tortoise (celluoid) binding scratches disappear as finer grit sandpaper is used.
