I practiced routing the binding channels on an old 2x4 until I felt comfortable with my recently fabricated binding jig. It was nervous time putting a router on the back of the ukulele. All the previous work could be ruined in a few seconds. The jig worked like a dream. I step routed for 3/32" black white black purfling and a tortoise (nitrocellulose) binding. The Martin T-1 ukes built in the 1960s used tortoise binding. The Bosch Colt router and Stew-Mac router bit provided clean sharp cuts ( I highly recommend getting the Stew-Mac starter set.)
