Jig Fabrication

I've spent a lot of time fabricatiing jigs in order to make the tenor ukulele. The latest jigs include:

Back Attachment Jig (bottom): This jig provides adjustable pressure to attach the ukulele back to the sides. The horizontal bars are shaped to accomodate arch in the back. The photo above shows the back being glued to the sides. This jig will accomodate soprano, concert, tenor and baritone ukulele shapes.

Binding Jig: This jig routes the channels for the ukulele bindings and purflings. After drafting and rejecting different designs, including one with an adjustable arm used for a wall mounted TV, I built a stationary binding jig similar to the one offered in the LMI catalog. It is a simple jig utilizing two drawer guides mounted side by side to provide the up and down movement. For tension, I salvaged a spring from an old Luxo lamp. The mounting plate was made from high density plastic and the "doughnut" was shaped from an old cutting board with my Dremel circle cutter.
