The Rosette is the design inlayed around the sound hole. The focal point of the rosette I designed is a rosewood circle framed with black and white circular lines (purfling). The soundboard is prepared by routing shallow channels for the rosewood and purflings. The inlay is carefully inserted into the channels and glued with super glue. The glue wicks under the inlay and bonds to the soundboard. After the glue has dried, the rosette is leveled to the sound board using planes, scrapers and sand paper.
