Mahogany, Rosewood and Koa are open grain woods and the pores need to be filled prior to finishing. I filled the pores with the LMI water-based grain filler. I thinned the filler with some water to a mud consistency then using a credit card for a squeege scraped the filler cross grain. I used a rag where I couldn't scrape the card. I let the filler dry for one day and sanded. The filler comes in various colors, I used the Mahogany color. Dye can also be added to the filler.
